SCNU has been approved to offer 11 new majors to undergraduates, according to the result of 2021 Undergraduates Majors Filing and Approval released by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on February 24.
The newly approved majors include Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Digital Economy, Financial Technology, Functional Materials, Energy Storage Science and Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated System, Big Data Management and Applications, Cross-border E-commerce, Information Security, and Cryptography Science and Technology.

SCNU said it focuses on the fields of artificial intelligence and national security and sets up interdisciplinary majors including those integrating natural science and social science in response to the national strategy and demand of regional economic development. It will also build subjects keeping up with strong social needs, bright job prospects and big talent gaps, such as advanced manufacturing, energy materials, integrated circuit and information technology.
It is reported that the MOE supports universities to set up majors that cater to national strategy and the development of regional economy and industry in line with the school orientation and characteristics. MOE also guides universities to promote interdisciplinary subjects development and has approved new majors which integrate arts and science, science and engineering, and medicine and engineering, etc.
