The inaugural ceremony of the Education Group of Schools and Kindergartens Affiliated with SCNU was held on the Shipai campus on January 16, marking an important step of SCNU towards promoting high-quality basic education and running a school cluster.
SCNU president Wang Enke, joined by five other board directors of the Group, pushed the start button to officially announce the establishment of the Education Group. President Wang Enke said in his speech that the establishment of the Education Group was a pragmatic measure to promote comprehensive reform in the field of basic education, as well as lead the high-quality development of basic education in Guangdong.

He also elaborated on three expectations for the development of the Education Group. Firstly, according to national policies and directives of the local government, the Group should positively cooperate with local government and partners to solve issues in the participation of public and private schools at compulsory education stage. According to the Ministry of Education, with aim to promote the quality of compulsory education and balance public educational resources, private schools are not allowed to enroll students in the name of public schools.

Secondly, the Education Group is expected to take social responsibility in promoting the development of high-quality basic education in Guangdong province, making full use of the regional distribution of member schools (and kindergartens), and taking the group member schools (and kindergartens) as bases to lead the high-quality development of local basic education. Last but not least, he emphasized that the Education Group should lead educational development as it explores to build a new ecology for the future of education. With the bases of cooperative schools (and kindergartens), through various theoretical research and practice and organizing professional forces, the Education Group should study and guide future schools to deepen reforms in the fields of teaching, curriculum, teachers, schools, education across time and space and so on.
As a comprehensive teacher training university, SCNU has been committed to cultivating outstanding teachers and promoting regional educational development. As early as July 2016, SCNU initiated the establishment of a platform called Alliance of the Affiliated Schools and Kindergartens. The development of that platform has not only pooled the complementary strengths, interaction experience and the sharing of resources among the schools and kindergartens affiliated with SCNU, but also laid a solid foundation for the later establishment of the Education Group, according to the school official website.
Relying on SCNU’s advantages in teacher education and the earlier platform of the Alliance, the Education Group serves as a collaborative development community committed to serving quality and balanced development of basic education within and beyond Guangdong province. The group comprises two sub-groups: the Education Group of Secondary Schools Affiliated with SCNU and the Education Group of Primary Schools and Kindergartens Affiliated with SCNU. As such, the mechanism of coordinating and making comprehensive plans for cooperative schooling has been improved.
Until September 2021, SCNU had opened 37 affiliated schools and 15 affiliated kindergartens, radiating affiliated primary and secondary schools and kindergartens to 17 prefecture-level cities in the province, educating over 100,000 primary and secondary school pupils and over 5,000 kindergarteners. At present, more than 6,000 teachers are employed by the affiliated schools and kindergartens, training and building a pool of excellent teachers for basic education in the province.
Also at the ceremony, the Exhibition of Cooperative Basic Education Achievements of SCNU was opened. This exhibition with exhibition boards set up along the street on the Shipai campus, displays the achievements and experience of SCNU running primary and secondary schools affiliated with SCNU overseas. It is not only a summary of SCNU’s successes running schools, but also demonstrates SCNU’s innovative exploration of ways to actively assume social responsibility and deeply integrate into the overall situation of regional economic and social development, which has important social significance.
