A signing ceremony between SCNU and Pingdingshan University (PDSU) for the Pingdingshan University Base, Center for Southeast Asian Studies of SCNU was held on November 12.

At the ceremony, SCNU vice president Wu Jian described SCNU’s developmental history and status especially its standing in Southeast Asian countries and the region. In his speech, he stressed the work carried out in the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and briefed on the related work done by China.
He emphasized that the center is a specialized institution that relies on the strength of disciplines such as comparative education and Chinese international education at SCNU. It integrates advisory services for government, discipline development, talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage and international exchange and cooperation. The center has made outstanding contributions to serving the national Belt and Road initiative and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
He also expressed his hope for cooperation between the two sides in promoting Chinese excellent traditional culture through exploring the value of the excellent traditional culture of Central Plains, having a win-win relationship in assisting talent training and working together to promote national and regional research and practice in Southeast Asia.
Yu Changli, vice president of PDSU introduced PDSU's development profile and its research characteristics in the Yellow River civilization, Central Plains culture, especially ceramics and Quyi culture. Moreover, he pointed out that today's signing marked a new stage of cooperation and the two sides would work together to spread Chinese to the world. He hopes that both sides can take their advantages, making contributions to the innovation and serving a better role in external relations under the guidance of Southeast Asian Studies of SCNU.

Subsequently, the two vice presidents signed an agreement of cooperation on behalf of the two sides. After that, Wu Jian, on behalf of SCNU, donated the plaque for the Pingdingshan University Base to vice president Yu of PDSU. In addition, the center also held an appointment ceremony for researchers.
Since its establishment in June 2017, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies of SCNU has established 8 research bases in 7 countries in Southeast Asia. The constitution of Pingdingshan University Base provides conditions for domestic and international double-circulation interaction of the Center's research bases. At the same time, PDSU can give full play to the resources and advantages of Chinese Central Plains culture (Fuyu Mountain Cultural Circle, Qujing Culture, etc.) and promote Chinese culture to go global.
PDSU, which originated from Pingdingshan Normal School in 1959, is now a full-time and comprehensive university in Henan province, central China, according to its official website. PDSU owns several research institutions in Chinese traditional culture, such as Henan Provincial Key Laboratories of Henan Central Plains Ancient Ceramics Research Key Laboratory and Henan Province Eco-economical Woody Plant Germplasm Innovation and Utilization Key laboratory.
