A seminar on the development of new display and strategic electronic materials technology was held successfully at SCNU on October 24, 2021.
It focused on the task arrangement of the application guide for the key special project of “New Display and Strategic Electronic Materials”, listed in the national key research and development plan in 2022.
The seminar was held on the Shipai campus in October.
Ma Weihua, vice-president of SCNU, delivered a welcome address at the seminar. She said SCNU started the research of new display and strategic electronic materials early and has a good foundation. SCNU has gathered a number of outstanding researchers and developed it rapidly. In the future, SCNU will further give full play to its disciplinary advantages, focus on the research of key materials and devices of video display, high-performance power semiconductors, information storage and transmission in the era of big data.

Yang Jun, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, spoke about the development of scientific and technological innovation in Guangdong Province in recent years. Meanwhile, he demonstrated the model innovation and major achievements of the Guangdong Provincial Government in the implementation of the National Key Basic Research Program during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, as well as the overall arrangement for research in Guangdong Province and the links between the province and cities in research into new display and strategic electronic materials during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. He expressed the hope that the participants will support and guide more major innovation achievements in Guangdong.

Cao Xuejun, an official from the Materials Division of the Department of High and New Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, stressed that the overall goal of the key projects on new display and strategic electronic materials during the 14th Five-Year Plan period is to meet the urgent needs of key electronic materials developers in key areas. Efforts are needed to achieve breakthroughs in core technologies for the applied new display industry, open up and expand the innovation chain, and achieve breakthroughs in common key technologies of the preparation and application of strategic electronic materials, so as to ensure the independent supply in the field of core electronic materials and devices.

Bian Shuguang, deputy director of the High Tech Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, made a summary of the meeting. He fully affirmed that the opinions and suggestions made in the seminar were valuable. He hopes that the participating experts conduct in-depth communication and exchange with relevant departments and experts in Guangdong Province on the common key technologies in the four fields of new display, third-generation semiconductor, high-power laser and cutting-edge electronic materials, as well as jointly make follow-up task arrangements.

After the meeting, the experts and officials participating the seminar visited the South China Academy of Advanced Optoelectronic for field research, and conducted discussions with relevant SCNU experts. Reports on SCNU projects into new type display and strategic electronic materials were delivered to the research group by scholars from relevant schools and colleges in the field.
Guided by the Materials Division of the Department of High and New Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, the seminar was sponsored by the High Tech Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC , and co-hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong province and SCNU.
More than 50 people attended the seminar, including officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong province, the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and core experts from relevant fields.
