Eight achievements of SCNU have received awards in the Sixth National Award for Outstanding Achievements in Educational Scientific Research recently, ranking the first in the number of awards among universities in Guangdong province, according to the announcement released by the Ministry of Education.
A total of 344 prize-winning achievements were selected for the award, of which 26 were first prizes, 119 were second prizes and 199 were third prizes. SCNUers won one first prize, four second prizes and three third prizes making a total of eight prizes.
Among the achievements awarded, the works from Professors Qu Chen and Lu Xiaozhong stand out.
The article of Professor Qu Chen, titled An Integrative Interdisciplinary Perspective on Social Dominance Hierarchies, has been rewarded the first prize. It was published in Trends in Cognitive Sciences, a journal affiliated with Cell. The paper integrates findings from social neuroscience, evolutionary biology, and developmental psychology on the acquisition and representation of social hierarchies, arguing that in many populations, hierarchy is a dominant feature of social relations. Moreover, individuals who are adapt at recognising hierarchical relationships and adopt adaptive behaviour have greater access to social resources.
Another work named Modernization of Higher Education: Theoretical Development and Practical Exploration, authored by Professor Lu Xiaozhong, won a second prize. Published by Science in October 2020, the monograph systematically analyzes the theory of higher education development and its relationship with the modernization of higher education, conducts an in-depth discussion on new development of higher education development theory. Besides, it explores a new development model of the modernization of higher education, and compares the modernization models and characteristics of higher education between developed and developing countries. What’s more, it also provides a panoramic and profound exposition on the localization of the theory of higher education development in China and the development of the modernization of higher education in China.
Lu's book represents the academic frontier of the modernization of higher education development theory in the new era, and it is of great significance to lead theoretical research and practical exploration of higher education modernization, according to participants attending the book release.
Hosted by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the Sixth National Award for Outstanding Achievements in Education Science Research aims to promote the development of education science in China and further mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of education science workers through summarizing the work achievements made on the frontier of education science research in China from 2016 to 2020.
