The opening ceremony for international students of the School of International Culture was held on Wednesday, with related faculty and staff participating at the main venue, while about 300 students watched the proceedings via a video link.
Liang Tiexiang, who is in charge of foreign student affairs from the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, briefly introduced the history and general situation of SCNU. He hopes that students can adapt to their studies and life in China quickly, and master professional knowledge well. Meanwhile, he stressed that all students need to understand and abide by Chinese regulations and school discipline, and follow school management.
Dean Zuo Pengjun, on behalf of the School of International Culture, delivered a detailed introduction about SCNU’s history, teaching objectives and education characteristics. He hoped that students could strive to become cultural ambassadors and peace messengers when they return to their own countries as they engagethemselves in the learning of Chinese language and culture.
Teacher representative Ms. Wu Yingzi then gave a speech. She encouraged students to read and think more, and make friends with good teachers as well as fellow students to enrich their university life.
Following their speeches, a series of other topics concerning international students were introduced, involving management regulations, student visa policies, and guidelines for life in China.
Student representatives Qin Yunguang, a PhD candidate from Thailand, Gao Yuechen, an undergraduate student also from Thailand, and Su Jin, a language student from Iran, took this opportunity to share their stories about SCNU. They are fascinated by the Chinese cultural heritage, and think highly of the academic atmosphere at SCNU. They called on other international students to cherish their learning time at SCNU and make progress together.
One of the student representatives Su Jin from Iran is sharing her experience at SCNU.
Other international students also left messages on line, expressing their yearning for campus life, and demonstrating their active attitude in adapting to their studies and life in China at the start of the new semester.
Traditionally, the school attaches great importance to students' adaptability to university. This opening ceremony was designed as a "first lesson" for international students, aiming to enable students to have a better understanding of school history, teaching plan, educational strengths, etc., and help them to better integrate into campus life.
