September 5 to September 12 are the days freshmen move-in at South China Normal University. In three batches, 7,603 undergraduates and 5,503 graduate students will register in SCNU to embrace their new journey.
On September 5, at 7 am, SCNU staff and student volunteers gathered at the check-in entrances of the Shipai campus and the University Town campus, welcoming the first batch of 2021 freshmen, and assisting with the completion of their registration.
Before entering the gate, under the guidance of the volunteers, students needed to scan the QR Health code and have their temperature checked. Though parents and friends are not allowed to enter the campus under the conditions of normalized epidemic prevention and control, the freshmen are still full of enthusiasm and longing for the first day of university life with the help of the school and the college.
Besides the careful assistance from the volunteers, each school also prepared exquisite and distinctive decoration on the registration site.
A mystery box prepared for new students of the School of Chinese Language and Literature.
The School of Chinese Language and Literature designed a cubical mystery box with elements such as kapok, SCNU’s motto and its nine years relocation history and so on. The four aspects of the cube have different focuses, so as to guide the freshmen to embark on a journey of exploring the university’s "spirit of independence and idea of freedom".

Li Xiqi of the School of Chemistry.
Li Xiqi, a 2021 undergraduate majoring in Chemistry (Teaching) at the School of Chemistry, held a selfie stick and used a vlog to record what he saw and heard on the first day of admission. Li has a habit of recording his life by vlog. What we can view of SCNU from his vlog is the atmosphere of life and learning. He said that there are people running on the playground, and a senior student is sitting and reading in a shady corner. It feels that SCNU is a very suitable place for us to study and live. His tone was full of longing for future life.
Li Keqi and Zhang Yachun of the School of Music.
"There are a total of 40 students in the class, and more than 30 have signed up as welcoming volunteers.” Li Keqi and Zhang Yachun said. They are all 2020 undergraduates of the School of Music. From being helped to helping others, they felt their transformation from freshmen to sophomore students distinctly. The experience of volunteering also reminds them of the volunteers who helped them last year. They said "we still appreciate the volunteers who helped us last year."
Wang Gengsheng, counselor of 2021 freshmen at the School of Chemistry.
This year, Wang Gengsheng, 2021 undergraduate counselor at the School of Chemistry, participated in the orientation week as a counselor for the first time. As a 2017 graduate of SCNU, he has participated as a volunteer in the orientation three times. He has grown up in the orientation work every year and passed the warmth and hope to the freshmen. The work of the counselor is arduous and hard. He embodies the spirit of "struggling hard" of SCNU students, devotes himself to the work of counselors with passion, and gains growth from getting along with freshmen and part-time head teacher teams.
