SCNU won a championship and a third place at the RoboMaster 2021 University League (Guangdong Province), which was hosted by SCNU at its University Town campus from April 9-11.

SCNU sent two teams to participate in the competition, which includes two types of challenges — 3V3 Confrontation and the Standard Confrontation. The Xiangqin team, which comes from the original name of our university, defeated the team of Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) 2:1 in the fierce final of the Standard Confrontation, while another team called Pioneer took 1:2 to the team of South China Agricultural University in the semi-finals and won the third prize in the 3V3 Confrontation.
Robot No.4 (from Xiangqin Team) closely follows robot No.3 and pushes it into the corner. Robot No.4 aims at it and launch an attack.
Members of both teams are all from the School of Information and Optoelectronic Science and Engineering of SCNU, and those of the winning Xiangqin team are all experienced senior students, according to the reporter at the scene.
Wei Jiahao, the team leader in the RoboMaster series joined in the contest for the third time. He felt both nervous and excited as his team competed on behalf of the host school this time. As a senior, he shares competition experience and exercises teammates’ ability to solve problems independently. With his leadership during the past year, the team worked hard in the robot upgrade iteration, applying the automatic aiming system so as to increase the hit rate. Besides, the team members also optimized the algorithm control of the robots.
Different from Xiangqin team, the Pioneer team is composed of juniors from Class 2019 who just took part in the competition for the first time. “Initiallyit was just a participating team, but later we integrated the courses and teaching of science and engineering into the team building, and turned it into one with great potential for innovation.” Zhang Zhun, instructor of Pioneer team said.
Pioneer team members are working hard in robot research and development.
Robot research and development requires the joint efforts of the three areas: machinery, electronic control, and vision. As a member of the mechanical group, Wu Tao, a student of Class 2019 said that the sense of responsibility promotes members to learn more professional content continually. "Inter-group cooperation encourages us to learn from each other's strengths and to solve technical problems together." Wu added.
In the field competition not only results, but also friendship is important. In the 3V3 competition, the two teams from SCNU met in 16-to-8 knockouts. After two rounds of fierce duels, the Pioneer team, defeated the Xiangqin team with a score of 2:0. At the end of the game, the Pioneer team bowed to the Xiangqin team and shouted, "Thank you, dear seniors!".

The RoboMaster program is a platform for robotic competitions and academic exchange founded by Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) and specially designed for global technology enthusiasts. It aims to spread the culture of engineers and help young college students realize their dreams of scientific and technological innovation.
SCNU hosted the robotic technology innovation competition for the first time this year, a brand-new breakthrough for our university in the science and technology era. A total of 36 teams from 35 colleges and universities from five provinces in southern China participated in the Guangdong province section.
