The Xiangqin Forum, one of the largest and longest academic events of SCNU, closed with a concert ceremony at the University Town campus earlier this month. Lasting from September to December, the forum has seen over 55,000 student participants and up to 274 activities held across 34 schools and colleges.

This year’s forum themed “boosting youth vitality, chasing dreams bravely”, featured a series of activities, including lectures by renowned professors, an academic salon, competitions, and other innovative activities.
Different from previous editions, the activities were organized in a more innovative way, Zhou Xiaoxuan, student representative of the Graduate Student Association said at the closing ceremony. “For example, some COVID-19 related projects were promoted this year, such as the Cloud Era Cultural Creative Design Competition and the micro class contest with speeches on the coronavirus” Yang Zihan, a member of the association said. On top of that, here were more highlights at the event.
Face to face with academic experts
Academician Wang Enge, a professor from Peking University, was invited to give a lecture. He touched upon the development history of modern physics, narrated the process of the development of chips from basic research to technical application and finally to market development, especially introducing the development history of integrated circuits, and further pointed out the current lacunae in China in the process from scientific research to industrial application. Also, in the lecture, he introduced the future planning of the Songshan Lake Laboratory, and expressed his expectations about the cooperation between SCNU and the Songshan Lake Laboratory. About 350 teachers and students from different schools and institutes attended the meeting, and some also seized the opportunity to exchange ideas with the expert. With the audience's warm applause, the lecture had a successful ending.

Innovative Stage Play: a combination of law and art
Sponsored by the graduates’ union, and undertaken by graduate students of the Law School , one of the Xiangqin Forum’s innovative activities, the photo drama "Bekaa’s Conjecture", was held in the Moot court of Law School. This year's "Law Stage play", set against backdrop of World War II, interpreted the theme of "Evil law is law, evil law is illegal".
"The main character’s performance illustrated the dissociation between obedience and resistance to 'evil law', which perfectly reflects the black and white sides of human nature. Facing with the same predicament, different people may have different answers; that is the appeal of law." said Huang Qijing of the Law School. Yang Rui, a teacher from the Graduate Student Union of the Law School, quoted the classic law proverb saying "Law is revealed morality, while morality is the hidden law" to encourage students become good law-abiding men.
Youth Speech Contest showed respect to heroes
The "Youth fight against the epidemic, born towards the Sun" keynote speech contest was successfully organized jointly by the School of Arts and the School of Politics and Public Administration. According to the new competition mode of keynote and impromptu speech, the contestants combined with the people and things around them in the first round of the competition and told touching stories about pioneers and tenacious fighting role models, who contributed to the epidemic prevention and control work. Wang Liping and other contestants told stories about themselves and the epidemic from their own experience, and in their telling illustrated the fearfulness of youth, and the greatness of ordinary people. In the second round of the competition, contestant Hu Runze explained his understanding of " Heroes in harm's way " ihumorously cutting to the theme through forward and reverse reactions in chemistry, to showed respect to all the heroes who countered the epidemic.
"The school's activities have been really colorful, and this forum has deepened my understanding of the characteristics of different subjects. Several activities and competitions have also stimulated my interest in certain aspects, such as psychology, and I hope I can learn more about them when I am free." This year is the first time that Chen Shimeng has participated in the Xiangqin Forum. The forum is the annual major academic platform for interaction activities at SCNU, and she has learned a lot indeed.

The name of Xiangqin comes from the original name of South China Normal University, originally known as Guangdong Provincial Xiangqin Normal College.
