The Data-based Diagnosis & Solution (DDS), developed independently by South China Normal University and the China Information Technology Design & Consulting Institute (CITI), was officially released in Guangzhou in an effort to boost teacher professionalization.
The system made its debut during the press conference showcasing the industry-academia-research outcomes of the Joint Lab of Artificial Intelligence and Teacher Competence Improvement by SCNU and CITI. The DDS is the first system product in the country using technologies including artificial intelligence, and big data to help improve the teacher’s competence, according to the introduction at the event. Based on the data collected from classroom teaching, the product can form an assessment report by analyzing the data with the help of a scientific index system, which helps teachers accurately acquire professional development capabilities and characteristics as well as offer suggestions for teacher professionalization to promote the professional ability of teachers.

Chen Wenhai, SCNU vice president, pointed out that the cooperation between SCNU and CITI is the embodiment of fully responding to the national call. He expressed his hope that the joint laboratory will have the courage to constantly improve and update, to break with traditions and to create new technologies.

Zhang Yong, CITI general manager mentioned that with the establishment of the joint lab full use can be made of the advantages of both the university and the enterprise to better serve social development and educational reform from the perspective of corporate social responsibility. He said, taking this product release as an opportunity, CITI will continue to expand the enterprise's technological and market advantages, to help the continuous deepening development and promotion of industry-academia-research outcomes.
The database for teacher assessment release ceremony
At the press conference site, representatives of SCNU, CITI and specially invited guests from all over the world walked onto the stage, pressing hands on a crystal ball which symbolizes success, cooperation, completion of product research and development, thereby declaring the official release of the teacher ability evaluation system.
An academic discussion was also held at the conference. Under the theme of "The core competence of teachers in the era of artificial intelligence", guests shared their views on such topics as the change of teachers' quality in the era of artificial intelligence, key competences of teachers and development trends of future teachers.
The release of the industry-academia-research outcome of the joint laboratory is not only a crystallization of school-enterprise cooperation for mutual benefit, but also a new starting point for the continuous promotion of teacher education reform with the help of technological innovation. The two sides stated that they will continue to promote the iterative update of teacher ability AI evaluation system, promote industry-university-research cooperation, and promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, so as to make an important contribution to China's artificial intelligence plus teacher team building.

Professor Wang Hong, the director of the Joint Lab and the administrative deputy dean of the College of Teacher Education, SCNU, recalled that in 2018, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Joint Lab in response to the difficulties in capacity with teacher development. The Joint Lab, aiming to develop a industry-academia-research cooperation product in response to the difficulties in capacity for teacher development, assembled a team of experts to develop this product using artificial intelligence techniques to reflect teachers' teaching ability, and help teachers to with tailor-made improvement and professionalization.
In the future, based on the deep learning of big data, the joint laboratory will continuously iterate the evaluation system, improve the existing evaluation index system of teachers' ability, explore the actual changes of the index system in different disciplines, and develop an AI-based vocational ability evaluation system for teacher training university students.

Apart from leaders from both sides, this conference was also joined by over 200 people, including scholars, teacher representatives, AI experts, and enterprises representatives from across the country.
