The signing and plaque unveiling ceremony for the Joint Experimental Center for Materials Science and Engineering was held at the University Town campus of SCNU earlier this month.
Agreement on jointly building an experimental Center for Materials Science and Engineering signed between SCNU and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory.
The signing of the agreement between SCNU and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory to jointly build an experimental center marks a milestone in the research and development of our university, president of SCNU Wang Enke said ahead of the signing ceremony. According to his speech, the center is expected to play its part as a premier platform for promoting the integration of production-study-research and speeding up the transformation of scientific research achievements into product development, while staying at the forefront of materials research at home and abroad. In this way, it will contribute to the economic growth in Guangdong province and beyond.
Professor Wang Enge, director of the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, also addressed the audience. He expressed his hope that SCNU will integrate scientific research and talent advantages from both sides, carry out both cutting-edge fundamental and applied research cooperatively in many fields, explore the direction of inter-disciplinary science so as to jointly promote the development of the Joint Experimental Center for Materials Science and Engineering. He expressed his belief that the cooperation will play an important role in solving key issues such as providing talents for the country.
Following the signing ceremony, president Wang Enke and professor Wang Enge, joined by two other leaders from both sides, officially unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening of the Joint Experimental Center for Materials Science and Engineering.

The ceremony came at a time when Xiangqin Forum, an annual event consisting of a series of activities for postgraduates’ academic study and exchanges, took place on the campus. Professor Wang Enge was thus invited to give a report on this occasion. He touched upon the core role of physics in scientific and technological innovation, and had a lively discussion with teachers and students on related topics. Li Ze, a student at the School of Physics and Telecommunication Engineering said the discussion gave him a better understanding of the direction of work in universities, companies and laboratories.
As Professor Wang Enge mentioned in his report, “Whoever masters the materials will master the future.” A series of practical application achievements have profoundly reflected the future value of material science research. Relying on cutting-edge scientific research and innovative model factories, Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory has made a series of remarkable industrial achievements. It’s worth mentioning that their new type of nanofiber filter material and a new high-quality Ti4O7 Ceramic Electrodes - 84 Disinfectant have been applied in the fight against Covid-19 this year.
