Dear teachers,
On the occasion of the 36th Teacher’s Day, we would like to extend holiday greetings to all the faculty and staff who have worked hard on the front of teaching, administration and other services, and also express our heartfelt thanks to people from all walks of life who’ve supported and helped the construction and development of our school.
2020年，是极其不平凡的一年。年初，突逢大疫，我们广大教师迎难而上，奋战在抗击疫情和“停课不停学、不停教”的两条战线上，付出了巨大努力，守护了学生身心健康。在过去半年多的时间里，你们牢记习近平总书记嘱托，落实立德树人根本任务，立足教育教学岗位，调整教育教学模式，打造云端课堂，确保疫情期间“开学不返校，网教不停学”，全校2000余名教师，通过在线会议、网络课堂等多种形式，开设了2323门的在线课程，参与在线学习的学生近90万人次，保障了教学进度和质量，交出了一份抗疫斗争的有温度、有技术的优异答卷，为抗击疫情做出了重要贡献。
2020 is a highly extraordinary year. At the beginning of the year, when the coronavirus epidemic broke out unexpectedly, our teachers embraced the difficulties and worked hard to keep our students on track despite class suspension while also sparing no efforts to fight the epidemic. Great efforts have been made in protecting the physical and mental health of students.
Over the past six months, our teachers have born in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions, implemented the fundamental tasks of fostering virtue through education, and adapted their teaching strategies for the virtual classroom as they sought to ensure "no returning to school during the epidemic, and keep on-line learning going." More than 2,000 teachers in the school have offered 2,323 on-line courses through on-line conferences, on-line classrooms and other forms, and the number of participating students exceeded over 900,000. Thus, we have done a good job in ensuring the progress and quality of teaching, and making important contributions to the epidemic fight.
纵观华师87年的发展历史，无论时间、空间如何转换，无论世情、疫情如何变幻。事实证明，华师教师都始终坚守“三尺讲台”，传承着“艰苦奋斗、严谨治学、求实创新、为人师表”的校训精神，发扬了“研究高深学术，养成社会之专门人才”的师德传统，承担起传播知识、传播思想、传播真理的使命，培育着一代代“爱国、创新、求真、质朴”华师人，为国家、为人民、为时代作出了应有的贡献。
Over the past 87 years SCNU has witnessed many changes. No matter what changes occur, it’s been proven that our teachers have remained committed to their profession of teaching, inherited the spirit of the school motto n.l. “fostering the spirit of working hard, pursuing studies with utmost rigor, seeking truth from facts with innovation, and being a model of virtue for others”, and carried forward the teaching philosophy of "advancing the frontiers of knowledge and cultivating expertise for the society". They have taken spreading knowledge, ideas and truth as their mission, cultivated generations of SCNU students who are "patriotic, innovative, truth-seeking, and genuine", and have made their contributions to the country, the people and the times.
“一个人遇到好老师是人生的幸运，一个学校拥有好老师是学校的光荣。”上半年以来，在学校全体师生的共同努力下，学校各项工作取得了可喜的进展：2020年软科世界一流学科排名榜中持续跃升，3个学科首次进入全球前300名，“环境科学与生态学”进入ESI前1%；南海校区国际化、新工科办学雏形基本构建；今年非师范类专业投档线位列广东省高校第4；第十二届“挑战杯”广东大学生创业大赛中省赛获8金5银2铜，捧得“优胜杯”；科研工作核心领域部分指标实现新突破；学校的办学声誉和影响力进一步提升。
It is the luck of life for a person to meet a good teacher, and it is the honor of a school to have a good teacher. Since the first half of the year, gratifying progress has been made in all work of the school thanks to the joint efforts of all teachers and students. In 2020, SCNU improves its position in the world-class disciplines ranking released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, with 3 disciplines included in the global top 300 for the first time, and its "Environmental Science and Ecology" discipline entering the top 1% of ESI.
We also see the ongoing internationalization and the basic development of a new engineering school at the Nanhai campus. Besides, the college entrance examination score line for non-teaching major ranks fourth among universities in Guangdong Province. In addition, we won the “Winners' Cup” in the 12th "Challenge Cup" of the Guangdong University Student Entrepreneurship Competition with 8 times gold, 5 times silver and 2 times bronze. What’s more, new breakthroughs have been made in some indicators in the core areas of scientific research. Our school's reputation and influence have been further enhanced.
The successful school development is embodied by the wisdom and hard work of all the faculty and staff. It is your love and dedication and unremitting efforts that have laid a solid support for the development of the school. Here we are sincerely thankful to all teachers!
“国将兴，必贵师而重傅”。2020年是全面建成小康社会和“十三五”规划、国家中长期教育改革和发展纲要的收官之年，也是学校推进国家一流学科建设、谋划“十四五”事业发展的关键之年。
As the saying goes, “a country will flourish as teachers are valued most and enjoy good status. The year 2020 is the concluding year of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and securing a victory in the 13th Five-Year Plan and National Plan for Medium- and Long-Term Education Reform and Development. It’s also a decisive year for promoting the construction of national first-class disciplines and planning the "14th Five-Year" development.
希望你们厚植爱国主义情怀，不忘立德树人初心，牢记为党育人、为国育才使命，以“四有好老师”和“四个引路人”为标准，以自我革新的勇气、勇于担当的精神、久久为功的毅力，不断推动学校早日实现“教师教育优势突出的创新型高水平大学”的办学目标。
We hope that you will cultivate patriotism, never forget your original aspiration of fostering virtue through education, and keep in mind the mission of educating people for the party and the country, take the “good teachers with four qualities” and “students’ guide” as the standard, and continuously push forward the early realization of our goal of building “an innovative high-level university bearing prominent advantages of teacher education” with self-innovated courage, responsibility and perseverance.
