From September 16 to 18, a group of experts appointed by the Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education and led by Zhuang Minghui, former vice president of East China Normal University, visited SCNU to conduct an inspection of the secondary certification of the history education major and the English education major.

At the expert group meeting on September 16, group leader Zhuang Minghui first introduced the purpose, task, work and requirements of the inspection. Then, SCNU president Wang Enke briefly outlined the general situation of teacher training at SCNU. Next, representatives of the two to-be-certified majors supplied the Self-evaluation Report which evaluates each major in the following aspects: profile of the specialisation, characteristic training for this specialisation and measures for continuous improvement. Lastly, the experts put forward common problems in student training according to the certification standard.

After the meeting, the expert group, on the basis of reviewing the Self-evaluation Report and Data Analysis Report, evaluated the development situation of each major through in-depth interviews, attending lectures, field investigations, evaluation of theses and collective evaluation. Special attention was paid to the teaching efficiency of the graduates.

On the morning of September 18, a feedback meeting was held in the Administration Building. Zhuang Minghui, on behalf of the expert group, gave feedback on the overall situation of the field inspection of the two majors. The other experts also gave feedback on the advantages and disadvantages found in the inspection process and put forward corresponding suggestions for improvement. Later, the deans of the School of History & Culture and the School of Foreign Studies indicated that they would make rectification plans according to this advice in order to do a better job in the future.

At the end of the meeting, Zhu Kongjun, the secretary of the CPC Committee of SCNU, made a statement on behalf of South China Normal University, pointing out that the problems found in the inspection will be taken as a guidance, and efforts will be made to further improve the understanding of education, to emphasize the work of research in order to improve the quality of lecturers, to increase the investment of resource to consummate the guarantee mechanism, to promote the reform of teaching, and to strengthen the professional ethics of the lecturers.

As the first university in Guangdong province to carry out the "Secondary certification of education major ", South China Normal University has its second chance to welcome experts for the secondary certification. A few months ago, three education majors, namely, physics education, and primary education and preschool education, passed the field inspection. Upon successful course certification, SCNU can organize interviews of the Qualification Examinations for Teachers in primary and secondary schools for its graduates on its own and verify their practical teaching competence through strict procedures.
