The Guangdong Aesthetic Education Exchange Meeting was held at the University Town campus of South China Normal University (SCNU) on June 14. With a series of activities held, this event attracted over 320 representatives including leaders from the Education Department, Department of Culture and Tourism, etc., in charge of aesthetic work in respective units as well as scholars and experts specialized in aesthetic education from 134 colleges and universities throughout Guangdong province.
A tour of the first batch of Outstanding Chinese Traditional Culture Heritage Bases in Guangdong province was arranged in the morning, with visits to the Cantonese Opera Museum, the Cantonese-opera Culture Heritage Base, and 10 workshops at various universities in Guangdong province.
Apart from a visit to these cultural heritage sites, a spectacular performance of outstanding Chinese traditional culture heritage was also held during the event, which covered nine programs of excellent Chinese traditional culture by seven colleges and universities. Among them, the Lingnan Lion Dance, Seaside Coconut Groove and Wangdu (the latter two featuring Li and Yao ethnic group culture) were performed by students from SCNU, drawing a warm applause from the audience for originality and visual effects.

In addition to dancing performances, many other forms such as choruses, Cantonese opera, and martial art performances were staged as well, all of which manifested the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
Another highlight of the event was the meeting for exchange of aesthetic education work experience. During the meeting, an interpretation of the "Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Effectively Strengthening the Aesthetic Education of Colleges and Universities in the New Era" was conducted, and a report on the "Memorandum on School Aesthetic Education Reform and Development” was made. Besides, speakers from SCNU, Sun Yat-sen University, the Guangdong University of Technology, the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Guangdong Teachers College of Foreign Language and Arts, and Shunde Polytechnic gave keynote speeches on the development of aesthetic education at their universities, respectively.
Moreover, 10 colleges and universities including South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou University, the Guangdong Teachers College of Foreign Language and Arts, the Hanshan Teachers College, Foshan University of Science and Technology, and the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology were awarded the plaque of "Excellent Chinese Traditional Cultural Heritage Base among Universities in Guangdong Province" by the Provincial Department of Education.
It is also worth mentioning that booths showcasing Chaozhou ceramic craftsmanship by students and teachers of the Hanshan Teachers College, Chaozhou woodcarving at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and a Book-of-Songs-themed exhibition by the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology were open to visitors on that day.
The event was hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and organized by SCNU in the context of thoroughly implementing the spirit of the National Education Conference and the spirit of the National School Aesthetic Education Conference, and actively putting into practice the idea of “educating people with aesthetics and cultivating people morally and intellectually” so as to promote national and provincial aesthetic education at a high level. Mainstream media such as People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Nanfang Daily, Yangcheng Evening News and Guangdong Radio and Television reported the event.
