On April 26, the Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions proclaimed the "Decision of the Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions on the Recognition of the Guangdong May 1st Labor Awards and Medals in 2019". The School of Psychology of SCNU was awarded the "Guangdong May 1 Labor Award" .
The School of Psychology has made outstanding achievements in discipline development, scientific research, talent cultivation and social services.
Discipline development
Under the national "211 Project" development and admission in 2012, the school’s "Learning and Human Quality Development" project ranked top four among more than 100 national projects in the humanities and social sciences. Then, in the evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 2017, the School of Psychology of South China Normal University was rated A+. Likewise were Beijing Normal University and Peking University. In the ranking of the best subjects in China released by the Shanghai Ranking, the psychology major of SCNU came second both in 2017 and 2018.
Research achievements
The college has been approved to carry out 63 national scientific research projects and received 15 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievements awards. It has published 51 academic works (as the first unit) and more than 500 academic papers in CSSCI journals as the first unit, of which 82 were published in Acta Psychologica Sinica. The number of papers published in Acta Psychologica Sinica has outnumbered any other university in China for many years. Psychology students have published over 400 papers in SCI and SSCI journals (as the first unit), including a series of papers in international first-class academic journals with a high impact factor such as PNAS, Cerebral Cortex and the Journal of Neuroscience . For 10 representative papers published in the Journal of Neuroscience, Cerebral Cortex, Trends in Cognitive Science, etc., the average impact factor was 9.96.
Talent cultivation
Three major talent training projects of the national natural science foundation have been approved with funds of 8 million yuan (about 1.17 million USD). Meanwhile, it has formed high-end talent training platforms, such as the national basic science research and talent training base, the national experimental teaching demonstration center, the Guangdong key laboratory, etc. It has also won six teaching achievement awards at the provincial level or above, such as a national first prize and a provincial special prize. Under the guidance of teachers, undergraduates have won 22 national and provincial awards, while postgraduates published 7 national or provincial excellent papers. As the first author, postgraduates published more than 400 high level academic papers in top journals of psychology such as PNAS and Cerebral Cortex.
Social services
After the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, the college organized a professional team to provide psychological assistance in the disaster area, which lasted for three years and was highly praised by the state leaders.
Then the college’s guidance work of psychological health education for primary and secondary school students in Guangdong province has played an exemplary and leading role in the country so that the School of Psychology was entrusted by the Ministry of Education to set up the only "Mental Health Education Guidance Center for Primary and Secondary Schools" in China.
Co-chaired with other four universities, it has completed the Ministry of Education major commissioned project "Chinese Students' Core Literacy Index System Research". The research results form a consulting report which was officially approved by the Ministry of Education review and has acted as a guide for the reform of the college entrance examination, national curriculum and teaching materials and school quality monitoring.
In 2012, the school conducted a research project in military emergency psychological assistance and psychological trauma repair, and later in 2014, it undertook the "Psychological Quality Improvement Project" of a department of the South China Sea fleet, which formed the work mode of improving the psychological quality of the troops.
