From 23 to 25 February, 2019, the Seventeenth Chinese National Round for Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held at Yunnan University. After fierce competitions, representative of the School of Law stood out among the representatives of 51 universities from across the country with solid indictment knowledge and excellent debating performance, and won the Second Prize and The Best Memorial of Respondent Second Prize.
The team was composed of Professor Jin Zheng, who acted as the coach, and five undergraduate students of School of Law, viz. Li Tingyu and Wang Yiran, who started their studies in 2016, and He Zhaomin, Min Rui and Qin Yuxin, who started their studies in 2017. During the half year of the preparations, guided by Professor Jin Zheng, the team members carried out a large number of high-intensity trainings focused on writing pleas and practice through court debate simulation. They even continued their training during the Spring Festival period.
This is the fifth time for representatives of the School of Law to participate in the competition. Founded by the International Law Students Association (ILSA), Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the oldest and largest international moot competition in the world, and it is known as the "Olympic Competition" in the field of international law. At present, the competition has set up 100 divisions around the world, of which the Chinese division is the largest and the most competitive.
