From December 22 to 23, the first National University "Professor Cup" Table Tennis tournament was held at SCNU. The competition was sponsored by the Federation of University Sports of China, organized by the China University Table Tennis Association, and hosted by South China Normal University. More than 300 teachers from 81 universities participated in the tournament. All athletes were professors who had been promoted through professional and technical positions, and senior researchers from provincial education departments (education commissions).
The contestants covered a wide range of ages. The youngest professor was only just over 30, while the oldest participating was over 70 years old. The contestants came from different universities all over the country, such as the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Wuhan University and South China Normal University. Although they belonged to different universities and academic fields, they experienced the charm of sports and enjoyed the fun of the competition.
The competition was divided into two stages, including both a round-robin and elimination tournament. There were four categories: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles, which were divided into three age groups: the under-45, 46-60, and over-60 group.
The results were as follows:
Men's Tag Team Champion under 45 was from Dongguan Polytechnic;
Women's Tag Team Champion 46-60 was from Harbin Normal University;
Men's Tag Team Champion 46-60 was from Wuhan Sports University;
Men's Tag Team Champion over 60 was from Wuhan University;
Women's singles champion under 45 was from Hebei Normal University;
Men's singles champion under 45 was from Soochow University;
Women's singles champion 46-60 was from Jinan University;
Men's singles champion 46-60 was from Wuhan Sports University;
Women's singles champion over 60 was from Yibin University;
Men's singles champion over 60 was from Guangdong Medical University.
