On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the founding of South China Normal University, the eighth Sino-Korean Seminar on International Private Law, jointly sponsored by the China International Private Law Society and the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission of China, the Law School of South China Normal University, the Guangzhou International Shipping Arbitration College of China, the Shipping Law Research Society of the Guangdong Law Society, the Guangdong Provincial Public Welfare Foundation for Promoting the Rule of Law, the International Shipping Law and Policy Research Center at South China Normal University , the Beijing Kangda (Guangzhou) Law Firm and the Guangdong Hengfu Law Firm, was held at the Dongfang Hotel in Guangzhou on 27 October.
More than 60 experts who were from the Chinese University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, Seoul University, Quanbei University, the Korean Central University, the Korean University of East Asia, Xiamen University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, the Zhuhai College of the Beijing University of Technology, South China Normal University, Jinan University, the Guangdong University of Foreign Languages and Trade, the Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, South China Agricultural University, the Guangdong Law Society, the Guangdong Provincial Higher People's Court, the Guangzhou Political Consultative Conference, the Guangzhou Maritime Court, the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, the Seoul District Court, the Korean Jinzhang Law Firm, the Beijing Kangda (Guangzhou) Law Firm and ther Guangdong Hengfu Law Firm, and more than 150 students from South China Normal University attended the seminar.
The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Zhang Yongzhong, dean of the law school of South China Normal University. At the beginning of the meeting, Zhu Kongjun, secretary of the party committee of South China Normal University, said that in-depth study and study in the field of international private law would help to effectively adjust the civil and commercial relations between China and foreign countries. Starting from the civil society, people all over the world would feel the power of the "community of human destiny".
The Sino-Korean International Private Law seminar provides a good platform for mutual learning and the study and development of international private law. Professor Huang Jin, vice-president of the Chinese Law Society, president of the Chinese International Private Law Society, president of the Chinese University of Political Science and Law, as well as president of the Korean International Private Law Society, and Professor Shi Guangxian, of the Law School of Seoul University, respectively, delivered speeches on behalf of Chinese and Korean International Private Law Societies. Huang Jin said that international law is now the common norm of conduct in all countries of the world, the universal discourse system of the international community, and the consensual value people globally. Over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, China has not only been a learner, follower, adapter, and observer, but also practitioner and beneficiary of current international law, but also a defender, developer and contributor to current international law. It is the reason why China has been able to develop into the second largest economy in the world. The nation's comprehensive national strength, it's economic, scientific and technological undertakings, it's national defense and it’s ability to enter the forefront of the world, do not only stem from reform and opening up, while taking the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, but are also rooted in learning, mastering and applying, practicing and further developing international law. Shi Guangxian said that resolving conflicts through international civil and commercial law, and pursuing international consensus in judgments of international private law must guide the concept of the international community in the 21st century. All countries in the world should respect and trust foreign cultures and laws. Holding this symposium can enhance mutual understanding and communication, deepen mutual trust and friendship, and help to deliver an Asian voice in the field of private international law. This is a very good opportunity.
Wang Xiaoli, director of the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission of China, said that in the field of international private law, the settlement of international commercial disputes is an important and practical issue, and the confidentiality of arbitration, autonomy of the will and the final ruling of arbitration undoubtedly play an important role in the settlement of international commercial disputes. As early as 2013, the Chinese Society of International Private Law and the Korean Society of International Private Law signed the Joint Statement on the Settlement of Economic and Trade Disputes between the two countries by Arbitration. After five years, this year's seminar coincides with the decision of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress on promoting the development of arbitration in Guangzhou. The Guangzhou Arbitration Commission will take this opportunity to strengthen cooperation with the international private law and arbitration community in Korea to provide better quality of legal services for the "one belt and one road" initiative.
