From October 18--20, the 19th Chinese Annual Conference for International Education and Expo (CACIE) hosted by the China Education Association for International Exchange was held at the National Conference Center in Beijing. Wu Jian, the vice president of South China Normal University, attended the International Conference on Educational Equipment and on behalf of the university accepted the "The Belt and Road" International Education Exchange Award from Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut.
The theme of the Conference this year was "Education Modernization -- Practice and Exploration". The CACIE is composed of three major components: China International Forum on Education, Education B2B and China Education Expo (CEE). The CEAIE has a full commitment to meeting the needs of China's modernization and development, furthering the advancement of education, promoting exchange and cooperation between the Chinese educational community and other parts of the world and strengthening understanding and friendship among the peoples of all countries and regions of the world. At the plenary session on October 19, Ms. Marina A. Borovskaya, deputy minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Mr. John Halligan T.D., minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development from Ireland gave opening remarks. Mr. Liu Limin, director of the China Education Association for International Exchange and Chinese astronaut major general Jing Haipeng delivered keynote speeches.
More than 2,000 guests and representatives from both China and foreign countries attended the conference. It is reported that the China Annual Conference for International Education and Expo (CACIE) has been successfully held for 18 years. It is now in China the most significant platform for international education exchange, the largest annual gathering of educators at home and abroad and an important window and bridge for the connection between Chinese education and world.
Mr. Chen Baosheng, China's minister of education, delivered a speech, in which he said that education is an important cornerstone of national rejuvenation and social progress, and is of decisive significance for improving people's overall quality, promoting people's all-round development, and enhancing innovation and creativity. He also expressed his wish that leaders, educators and business elites invited from all over the world can make full use of this opportunity to share their experience and perspectives, explore the way to education modernization, and map the blueprint of the future of global education.
During their stay in Beijing, Wu Jian, together with Qin Honglei, the deputy director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office and Huang Haijun, president of the Beijing Alumni Association, and other outstanding alumni held a symposium. Wu Jian firstly conveyed the greetings from the school party secretary Zhu Kongjun and the president Wang Enke to the alumni, and then expressed gratitude to the alumni for their concern and support for their alma mater. Wu Jian sketched the latest developments of South China Normal University and preparations for the 85th anniversary to the alumni. He said that the school's programmes such as dual-class discipline, high-level university development centering on the "higher discipline development, and more outstanding education" have been steadily advanced. The alma mater has made great progress within its 85-year development. Now at a critical period of historical development, it firmly adheres to its four goals of introducing high-tech talents, constructing high-end platform, and achieving internationalization and informationization. This year marks the 85th anniversary of South China Normal University. There will be a series of celebrations under the theme "academia, culture and alumni". Lastly he hopes that all alumni may often go home and offer advice on the development of the school, and the alma mater will also pay constant attention to the growth and development of all its alumni.
Meanwhile, the alumni expressed their heartfelt gratitude for SCNU, and felt encouraged by the achievements of the alma mater. In the future, they will make every effort to support the 85th anniversary celebration and the development of SCNU.
