The 2025 Symposium on International Cooperative Education was successfully held at the Foshan Campus of South China Normal University on November 28-29. It brought together nearly one hundred scholars from China and overseas countries and regions to explore pathways for high-quality development of international cooperative education in the era of artificial intelligence.

Wang Chunchao, vice president of SCNU, presided over the opening ceremony. In his address, he emphasized that artificial intelligence profoundly reshaping the essence, form, and development landscape of international cooperative education, and pointed out that in the face of structural challenges brought by AI-driven digital transformation, there is an urgent need to build a smart education system with Chinese characteristics and promote the strategic shift of internationalcooperative education from "scale expansion" to "quality development".
To this end, he proposed accelerating the establishment of an intelligent quality standard system, deepening international collaborative innovation in AI education, and jointly cultivating international high-end talents with digital literacy and a global vision.

Professor Joshua Mok Ka-ho, vice-president (Academic & Research) of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, delivered a video speech. He affirmed the forward-looking focus of the seminar on quality assurance in the AI era, shared the latest progress of the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership, and called for strengthened dialogue and collaboration within the academic community through such platforms to jointly share China's educational stories with the world.

The event adopted a format combining keynote forums and parallel sessions. The keynote forum featured twelve experts who delivered speeches across four key thematic areas: strategic planning, quality assurance, regional innovation, and AI-empowered talent cultivation.
Among the speakers were leaders and scholars, including Zhao Yanzhi, president of Shenyang University; Yu Lizhong, chancellor emeritus of New York University Shanghai; Mao Yaqing, vice president of Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College; Wu Hengliang, director of the Academic Affairs Office of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen; Jiang Sunan, former Minister-Counselor for Science and Technology at the Chinese Embassy in the UK; and Professor Cai Yuzhuo of the Education University of Hong Kong, along with other distinguished experts.

Parallel forums were held on the morning of November 29, focusing on the themes of "governance and quality assurance" and "teaching and talent cultivation reform in the AI era". Representatives from multiple institutions, such as the Queen Mary University of London Engineering School at Northwestern Polytechnical University, the Sino-Russian St. Petersburg Institute at Hangzhou Dianzi University, the Shanghai Lausanne Hotel Management College, the Surrey International Institute at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, the Jinan University–University of Birmingham Joint Institute, and SCNU's International Business School, shared insights and practices on talent development, institutional management, and industry-education integration.
Jointly hosted by the Guangdong Research Center of International (Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao) Cooperation in Running Schools and SCNU's Cross-border Education Quality Assurance Research Center, the symposium not only provided a platform for sharing China's practices in cross-border education quality assurance, but also highlighted its commitment to fostering global dialogue in shaping the future of education in the AI era.
