The Center for Southeast Asian Studies at South China Normal University, a center for country and region studies approved by the Ministry of Education of China, held the first China-Southeast Asia Youth Forum from August 29 to 31.
The conference, with the theme "China-Southeast Asia: Youth Resilience and Sustainable Regional Growth", attracted representatives of universities, think tanks, and governments from China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, and Vietnam, promoting mutual understanding and friendship between youth from China and Southeast Asian countries.

Wu Jian, director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies of South China Normal University, delivered the opening address. He said that as a center for country and region studies approved by the Ministry of Education of China, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies has the responsibility and obligation to take on the responsibility and mission of promoting youth exchange and cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the development of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
Luo Lin, director of the Secretariat for Country and Regional Studies of the Ministry of Education, fully affirmed the effectiveness of the development of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, stating that this first China-Southeast Asia Youth Forum will help better leverage the unique value of the Center in implementing national strategies and promoting cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.
Shen Liling, deputy director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of SCNU, pointed out that the university attaches great importance to deepening its cultivation in Southeast Asia and strongly supports the Center for Southeast Asian Studies in carrying out exchange and cooperation with Southeast Asia, and hopes that participating guests will continue to support the development of the Center so as to contribute to the construction of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Yu Hong, senior research fellow at the East Asian Institute, at the National University of Singapore, said that organizing this youth forum under the current international situation is of great strategic significance, opening a new chapter in regional youth exchange and cooperation, and looks forward to continuing this mechanism to carry out further youth exchange and cooperation.
In the afternoon panel discussions, scholars and experts shared insights and exchanged views on the topics - Mission and Action of Youth in the Perspective of a Community of Shared Future for Neighboring Countrie and Youth in China-Southeast Asia Education and Cultural Exchange.
On the morning of August 31, a tour to China's new energy vehicle manufacturing at the GAC Technology Museum was arranged to provide guests in-person experience of autonomous vehicle intelligent driving technology. The visit enabled them to have a close experience of the development of China's new energy and AI technology, and provided them deeper and more diverse understanding of the rapidly developing Chinese new energy vehicle industry in Southeast Asia in recent years.

The forum was guided by the Secretariat for International and Regional Studies of the Ministry of Education and South China Normal University, and co-organized by the Universiti Malaya, Thammasat University, the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and the National University of Singapore.
