To promote development in the field of advanced materials at SCNU and across China, SCNU held the 2024 Sino-Dutch Forum on Advanced Materials from November 29 to 30. Leaders, experts and scholars from China and the Netherlands gathered to discuss innovation and challenges, construction and development in new materials and interdisciplinary fields.

On November 29, a special session of the forum – “2024 South China Normal University Symposium on Frontier Materials and Interdisciplinary Science” was held on the Shipai campus. Experts in the field of new materials in China attended the conference to discuss innovation and challenges, construction and development in new materials and interdisciplinary fields.
On November 30, the "2024 Sino-Dutch Forum on Advanced Materials" was held on the University Town campus. At the forum, scholars from China and the Netherlands delivered speeches on advanced materials, discussing cooperation between the two countries in the field of advanced materials, scientific research innovation, and exploring new materials and interdisciplinary topics.

Wang Chunchao, vice president of SCNU, delivered a speech. He introduced a series of achievements in recent years between SCNU and Dutch universities in the field of advanced materials, including academic cooperation, student training, and platform development. He hoped that experts would fully exchange ideas and jointly explore new developments and models for scientific research cooperation between Chinese and Dutch universities, and continue to support the development of the school.

Zhuang Jia, deputy director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, said in her speech that China will integrate into circles of international scientific and technological innovation and cooperation with a more open attitude, and actively create a good environment for scientific research and exchange with the world. She expressed the hope that the next stage of scientific and technological innovation and cooperation between Chinese and Dutch universities in the field of advanced materials would be promoted through this forum, thus contributing to global green and low-carbon sustainable development.

Efstathios Andreou, consul general of the Netherlands in Guangzhou, pointed out that China is one of the Netherlands' important partners in the field of chemistry. He hoped that by leveraging the Netherlands' scientific research advantages in the field of green circular economy, further exchange and cooperation with China will be strengthened, promoting technological development in this field and helping to achieve global and Chinese carbon-neutrality goals, and build an environmentally friendly economic system.
Before this forum, from September 26 to 27, 2023, the first Sino-Dutch Science and Technology Cooperation Joint Committee was held in The Hague, in the Netherlands, proposing to prioritize advanced materials as the next cooperation field; on September 8 this year, the governments of China and the Netherlands held the "Sino-Dutch Green Chemistry and Recyclable Plastics Seminar" in Beijing. The forum, held at SCNU, aimed to continue promoting exchange, cooperation, and scientific research innovation in the field of advanced materials between China and the Netherlands. This forum is also a specific measure to implement the "Belt and Road" Technology and Innovation Cooperation Plan.
