Vice president of SCNU Wu Jian received a delegation led by Interim Vice-President (Global Engagement) and also leader of plant biomechanics of McGill University at the School of Life Sciences on November 13.
The delegation of McGill University visits the Shipai campus of SCNU.
Wu first extended a warm welcome to the delegation and briefed them about the university. SCNU has always kept with a commitment to the opening-up of education. He hopes that the two universities will further strengthen communication and exchange, combine both leading disciplines and development needs of both sides, promote cooperation in joint training, exchange between teachers and students, as well as scientific research, jointly promoting the high-quality development of both universities.
Professor Anja Geitmann briefed the audiences about the basic information concerning McGill University. She said that China is the largest source of international students for McGill University, and the university has signed memorandums of understanding or reached cooperation agreements with seven institutions in China. Anja Geitmann hopes the two universities can explore more possible areas of cooperation through enhanced communication and exchange.

At the meeting, Professor Gao Caiji, dean of the School of Life Sciences, briefed about the situation of the School of Life Sciences from different aspects. Both sides exchanged views on possible areas of future cooperation, and initially identified brain neurology, psychology, agriculture, life sciences, environment and other disciplines as the next areas to carry out exchanges.
Two universities exchanges gifts after meeting.
During the visit, Professor Anja Geitmann and Ms. Jie Yu, officer of the office of the vice president of McGill University, also took a tour of the University History Museum and the herbarium of the School of Life Sciences. They learned about the development history and achievements of SCNU, and experienced the teaching and research environment of the School of Life Sciences.
Founded in 1821, McGill University has been internationally renowned for centuries and has cultivated 14 Nobel Prize winners and 147 Rhodes scholars over the past 200+ years.
