On June 20, the Institut Confucius de La Réunion, an institution jointly established by SCNU and the Université de la Réunion in France, held its 2024 Council Meeting. Sixteen representatives from both sides attended the on-line meeting.

Yang Chengwei, vice president of SCNU, first reviewed the fruitful collaboration between SCNU and the Université de la Réunion over the past 14 years. He fully affirmed the contribution of the Institut Confucius de La Réunion in promoting cultural exchange between the two universities since its development. He expressed his hope for the Institut to carry out more activities and projects and contribute to strengthening the friendship between both the universities and the two countries at this significant time, as this year witnesses the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France.

Zattara, president of the French side, spoke highly of the important role of the Institute in Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange. She summarized the work in 2023 while putting forward the expectation of strengthening the cooperation between SCNU and the Université de la Réunion.

During the meeting, Zhou Xiaolan, the Chinese Director of the Institute, Aline Kwan, the French counterpart, and Marjolaine Roche, the general director of the Institute, reported on the teaching and cultural activities of the Confucius Institute in La Réunion. According to her report, the students of the Institute won the second prize, the excellence prize and the most promising individual prize in the recently concluded 23rd "Chinese Bridge" World University Students Chinese French Qualifier, which broke the record.
Founded in 2010, the Institut Confucius de La Réunion is one of the overseas Confucius Institutes with the status of a secondary school directly affiliated to the Université de la Réunion and South China Normal University. Since 2020, the Institut has provided a bachelor program in Applied Chinese and English Languages and offered a "Chinese language + Major" development model, which achieved good efficiency and laid a solid foundation for further development.
