From May 18-25, a delegation of SCNU led by researcher Zhou Xian, head of the SCNU Publicity Department, and professor Guan Feng, dean of the School of Marxism, visited France and Latvia, and conduct academic exchange with local scholars and universities.
In Paris, the delegation visited Prof. Bruno Guigue, a well-known French scholar and expert on international issues. Prof. Guigue attached great importance to this visit of the delegation. When he learned that the members of the group were mainly from the School of Marxism, he intentionally chose the venue of the talks to be the Café Régence in Paris, the place where Marx and Engels first met in 1844. "Just as the meeting between Marx and Engels was historic, I hope the meeting with you will be equally historic," Prof. Guigue said. During the meeting, Prof. Guigue expressed his full respect for SCNU, noting that the university has a deep academic heritage and a global vision.
Zhou Xian expressed his full gratitude to Prof. Guigue for his long-term contribution to Sino-French relations, pointing out that his article on China's development from an objective and neutral perspective not only had important academic significance, but also was of extraordinary practical value. Zhou then showed his expectation of Guigue's continuous writing on the story of China's development and becoming a messenger of Sino-French friendly relations.
Guan Feng expressed his hope that Prof. Guigue would establish a long-term cooperative relationship with SCNU, and strengthen academic exchange between the two sides by means of academic lectures, publication of papers, joint cultivation of students, and joint development of projects, etc. Prof. Guigue agreed and had a full discussion with the delegation on issues related to the development of modern China and the Chinese path to modernization.

In Riga, Latvia, the arrival of the delegation from SCNU attracted wide attention. Ambassador Tang Songgen, Minister-Counselor Song Danhui, First Secretary Zhang Jinbin and Director Zhang Zeyang of the Chinese Embassy in Latvia received the delegation.
Tang Songgen pointed out that SCNU, as a famous institution in China, plays a vital role in academic and cultural exchange between China and Latvia, and the Confucius Institute jointly created by SCNU and the University of Latvia is a precious window for Latvia to understand China, and academic exchange between the two sides are an indispensable window for pomoting the relation between the two countries. Tang also praised the School of Marxism, namely a national key School of Marxism, for its undertaking of international academic exchange.
Zhou Xian and Guan Feng expressed gratitude for Tang Songgen's affirmation, and reported the specific plans to expand and further strengthen exchange with the University of Latvia.

At the University of Latvia, the delegation met with Prof. Marcis Auzins, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Latvia. Marcis Auzins introduced the profile of the University of Latvia and emphasized the potential areas for cooperation between the two universities, especially in fields related to politics and physics. Zhou Xian and Guan Feng introduced SCNU with a focus on the current status of the School of Marxism.
The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation between the two universities in the fields such as humanities and arts, social sciences, and natural sciences and reached a consensus on specific issues such as the exchanges of teachers and students. Representatives of the two universities said that they would take the School of Marxism as an entry point to deepen the academic exchange, expand the channels of exchange, improve the quality of exchange, and realize regular cooperation.
Also during the visit, Prof. Yang Ting and Mr. Li Lihua, members of the delegation, were invited by Prof. Kaspars Klavins, head of the Department of Asian Studies of the University of Latvia, to participate in the International Academic Conference on "Dialogue of Asian Civilizations in Accelerated Globalization" hosted by the University of Latvia, and to make themed reports.

The delegation also visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, and listened to the report of Director He Dong of the Confucius Institute from Chinese side on the construction achievements and goals of the Confucius Institute. Zhou Xian, on behalf of SCNU, expressed gratitude to Director Pēteris Pildegovičs on the Latvian side, as well as teachers and volunteers of the Confucius Institute for their contributions.
