The academic delegation of SCNU visited the University of Latvia from May 21 to 24. The two universities agreed to deepen cooperation and establish a regular system for student and teacher exchange.
The University of Latvia has previously chosen exceptional students to study at SCNU through projects such as "Chinese Bridge". Based on the original exchange program, SCNU will annually select and financially support several students and teachers to engage in academic exchange at the University of Latvia.
The friendly relationship between SCNU and the University of Latvia has a long history. In 2011, the two universities co-founded the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia (LUCI). After more than 10 years of concerted efforts, it has become the largest and most well-organized Confucius Institute in the Baltic Sea region. In October 2023, Peteris Pildegovics, a renowned sinologist at the University of Latvia and the Latvian Director of the LUCI, were awarded an honorary doctorate by SCNU.
SCNU has dispatched dozens of teachers and over 100 volunteers to the University of Latvia to set up language learning courses. The course “The Rise of Modern Asia”, taught by Li Lihua, a teacher from the School of Marxism of SCNU, was included in the master’s courses of the University of Latvia and was deeply welcomed by students.
Zhou Xian, a member of the delegation, said that SCNU will increase its efforts in areas such as faculty and student exchange visits and cultural interaction to further contribute to academic and cultural exchange between China and Latvia.
