Korn Dabbaransi, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and president of the Thai-Chinese Friendship Association, visited South China Normal University on November 6.

Wang Binwei, secretary of the CPC Committee of SCNU, extended the warmest welcome to Korn Dabbaransi and introduced the schools' structure and discipline development of SCNU. On behalf of SCNU, Wang expressed his sincere gratitude to the Thai-Chinese Friendship Association's for its strong support to SCNU, and Korn Dabbaransi's attendance at the 2023 "Southeast Asia Forum".
Wang added this year marked the 10th anniversary of the "Belt and Road" Initiative (BRI) and the 90th anniversary of SCNU. Wang emphasized SCNU's ongoing commitment educational and cultural exchange and cooperation with the ASEAN countries on the way to pursuing high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Thailand is an important country in the joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Thai-Chinese Friendship Association significantly promotes cultural exchange and people-to-people bonds between the two countries. Wang hopes to further strengthen high-quality cooperation with Thailand and other ASEAN countries in various fields through the "Southeast Asia Forum", to deepen the integration of the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the "Belt and Road" as well as the exchange and cooperation between China and Thailand.
Korn Dabbaransi congratulated SCNU on its 90th anniversary and briefly introduced the history of the friendship between China and Thailand. Dabbaransi is an old friend of SCNU. He has attended the "Southeast Asia Forum" online multiple times and joined the Southeast Asian research team as a consultant. Therefore, he has established a close friendship with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies of SCNU.

The School of Chinese Language Teacher Education for Southeast Asia was jointly established by SCNU and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and was designated as the Center for Southeast Asian Studies in 2021. To promote professional research, exchange, and cooperation between countries and regions, the Southeast Asian Research Center has set up the "Southeast Asia Forum". Since 2017, the "Southeast Asia Forum" has been held six times. The 2023 "Southeast Asia Forum" was held from November 18 to 19 at SCNU.
