The first volume of the Southeast Asian Review was released at the 2023 "Southeast Asia Forum" International Conference. It is the first compilation of collected papers of interdisciplinary teaching and research on Southeast Asian studies in China.
Based with the Center of Southeast Asian Studies and related disciplines of SCNU, the Southeast Asian Review focuses on building a knowledge system of international and regional studies with Southeast Asian studies' characteristics. It aims to promote regional and international research on theoretical and practical issues in Southeast Asia, from the perspective of multi-disciplinary integration and regional cutting-edge issues.
Wang Enke (fourth from right), the president of SCNU, Korn Dabbaransi (fourth from left), former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Ong Tee Keat (third from right), a former member of Parliament and transport minister from Malaysia, and other guests participate in the launching ceremony of the journal.
Wu Jian, vice president of SCNU, announced that Southeast Asian Studies admitted its first batch of master's and doctoral students this year. The enrollment marks SCNU's exploration of the development of regional and international studies with the advantages of teacher training schools in discipline development and talent cultivation. With the support of the doctoral programs of geography, pedagogy and history, interdisciplinary Southeast Asian Studies designs its curriculum based on regional and international studies, to cultivate knowledge-based and application-oriented talents. It is hoped that the Southeast Asian Review can work as the engine of Southeast Asian studies and attract more teachers and students to join in the research.
Liang Yanling, vice president of Social Sciences Academic Press (China), congratulated the official release of the journal. She said that in response to the country's opening up and the demand for regional development, SCNU established an interdisciplinary research team to conduct regional and international studies on Southeast Asia in a comprehensive and wide vision. She believed that the Southeast Asian Review could boost the research power in Southeast Asian Studies and build a high-level academic exchange platform for researchers and practitioners of Southeast Asian regional and international studies.
The Southeast Asian Review is sponsored by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and published by Social Sciences Academic Press (China). Wu Jian, vice president of SCNU, is its editor-in-chief.
