Two institutes of SCNU have been approved as key research platforms for Humanities and Social Sciences according to the announcement by the Education Department of Guangdong province, marking an important achievement of the university's cross-disciplinary development.
The Artificial Intelligence and Law Laboratory was approved as a key laboratory for philosophy and social science while the Yan'an Spirit and South China Youth Education Research Center was acknowledged as key research base for humanities and social sciences.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Law Laboratory, part of the School of Law, integrates SCNU's research strengths in law, computer science, and artificial intelligence. Researchers at the institute conduct research and promote applications in cross-disciplinary areas such as "smart justice". Led by Professor Wang of the School of Law, the laboratory mainly focuses on research in three areas, the theoretical basis of AI's applications in law, the smart application of law, and legal aspects of using AI. Based on the in-depth integration of law and technology, the lab aims to develop AI technologies such as big data analysis in the judicial field, a legal knowledge atlas, and natural language processing to construct a smart legal system.
With the support of the School of History and Culture, the Yan'an Spirit and South China Youth Education Research Center was jointly established by the SCNU and the Guangdong Yan'an Spirit Research Association. It integrates the resources of related disciplines such as history, Marxist Theory, pedagogy, and research into the theories and practice of the Yan'an Spirit in the new era. Researchers at the institute conduct surveys on policies and society.
Under charge of Professor Jiang Jiannong, the center aims to cultivate talents to carry forward the Yan'an spirit in the new era. By conducting theoretical research, and providing youth education, teacher training programs, and policy consultation services, the center forms an important think tank and an education base.
In the future, SCNU will continue to encourage the development of key scientific research platforms. To fuel the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences, the university will emphasize the development of key laboratories for philosophy and social sciences, especially those in cross-disciplinary areas.
