Wang Liang, a teacher of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science of SCNU, was invited by World Table Tennis (WTT) and appointed by the Chinese Table Tennis Association to umpire at the WTT Champions Macao 2022, from October 19 to 23.
WTT Champions Macao is a table tennis tournament held by Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and WTT in Macao, China. It has been the second time for Wang Liang to serve as an umpire at this event since the WTT Champions Macao China Stars was first held in January 2021.

Wang Liang is qualified to officiate matches in both domestic and international competitions. He once refereed at the Olympic Simulation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the Chinese national table tennis team. Also, he participated in organizing the Guangdong Youth Table Tennis Championships and at the 13th Guangdong Middle School Table Tennis Championship he acted as the chief referee. On top of that, he has long been engaged in teaching, training and the organization of table tennis competitions, etc. During the table tennis games of the 11th Guangzhou University Games in May 2022, Wang Liang led the Second A Group of SCNU’s table tennis team to win the first and second place in women’s singles, and the third place in men’s singles and Mixed Doubles and was awarded the “Sportsmanship Award for the referee”.

WTT was launched in 2021 and it successfully starts a new era in professional table tennis. The competition series of WTT includes the Grand Smash, WTT championship, WTT Contender Series, and WTT World Cup final. In addition, in order to create opportunities to promote the growth of young players, WTT will hold WTT feeder series and WTT Youth Series.
This competition gathered male and female players who rank in the world top 30 in ITTF singles and two wild cards. After five days of fierce competition, Sun Yingsha and Chen Xingtong of the Chinese national table tennis team won the women’s championship and runner-up. Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong won the men’s championship and runner-up.
