To build a platform for cultural exchange between China and Indonesia and promote international Chinese language education, an on-line training workshop for Chinese language teachers in Indonesia opened on March 7.
The program is organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (referred to as CLEC), an organization affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE), and hosted by the School of International Culture of SCNU. It aims to cultivate excellent local Chinese teachers for Indonesia and build a communication platform for international Chinese education, Liang Tiexiang, one of the leaders of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation of SCNU, said at the launching ceremony of the program.

Zuo Pengjun, dean of the School of International Culture, said that Indonesian culture has a close connection with Chinese culture, especially with Lingnan culture (the culture in Southern China, particularly in provinces such as Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan), which lays a solid foundation for the cooperation between China and Indonesia.
He further noted that the training was not only a positive response to the trend of international Chinese teaching development, but also a way to tighten the two countries' friendship while seeking to gain experience in the training of international Chinese language teachers. He also said that the school has chosen backbone teachers and designed tailored courses for trainees, in aim to improve their abilities of language, class arrangement, understanding of Chinese culture and international communication.

Liyas Masri, president of Yayasan Pancaran Maitri in Indonesia, said the improvement of the application value of Chinese set off a craze for learning Chinese, and the local teachers in Indonesia should continue to update their education concepts and enrich teaching contents. He added that the course was a success last year and hoped this year the trainees could get the chance to improve themselves, devoting themselves to the development of Indonesian education.

Ye Huadi, representative of the trainees from Indonesia, said the course provided a chance for them to improve their spirits of innovation and practical ability. She hoped to grow through this chance and switch the pattern of learning knowledge well to teaching knowledge well, applying the pattern to her teaching practice.

Zhang Haiou, representative of the course instructors, introduced the teaching method and class-division principle. She said that the course covers language knowledge, teaching skill and culture communication, integrating knowledge transmission, experience communication and friendly exchanges. She hoped that both trainees and teachers could inspire and enhance the understanding of each other.

Lastly Chen Jun, director of Chinese Education and Preparatory Center in the School of International Culture, briefed participants on items related to course settings, attendance regulations, awarding of certificates and so on.

The training workshop is part of the online teaching project of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship established by the CLEC. It is an innovative measure of "International Chinese Education in Internet Plus", aiming to reduce the influence of the covid-19 pandemic and promote the development of international Chinese teaching.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the School of International Culture has actively adjusted its teaching pattern, strengthened the training of teachers’ online teaching skills and created a number of high-quality Chinese online courses to meet the needs of overseas Chinese learners.
