The “Chinese Bridge” On-line Winter Camp for the winter season 2021-2022 kicked off at the School of International Culture at SCNU on January 7, 2022. Well over 170 students from nine countries to had registered for the on-line camp.

The event, organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and hosted by SCNU for the second time, received wide attention and enthusiastic participation from overseas people. The 171 camp participants were mainly from nine countries including France, Latvia, Morocco, Vietnam, Thailand, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Among them, some are pupils of the Middle School Affiliated to the Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, some college students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Reunion in France, the University of Latvia, and Phu Xuan University of Vietnam. Some participants were employees in the private sector.
During the opening ceremony of the camp, Liang Tiexiang, leader of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation at SCNU and in charge of the program, said that he hopes that this winter camp would allow participants to further improve their Chinese language skills and to know more about the beauty of Lingnan culture in depth. Moreover, he said that he hopes they may also come to SCNU for further learning in the future.

Zuo Pengjun, dean of the School of International Culture, lectured on the unique climate, natural landscape and rich cultural heritage of the Lingnan region of China. He pointed out that the Lingnan region is the starting point of the present-day Maritime Silk Road and has been the center of foreign exchange activity in China as of ancient times. International exchange is one of the distinctive features of Lingnan culture. The school will do its best to provide high-quality courses for the participants to learn, connecting the culture of China with other countries.

Mao Hongfang, as a representative of the teachers involved in the program, introduced the curriculum, teaching style, subject content and class arrangement of this winter camp to the participants. She said that each on-line streaming class would be arranged with a head teacher to assist students in need of help and enhance their course experience. Selected students from the Confucius Institute of the University of Latvia, and Phu Xuan University of Vietnam said they looked forward to making new friends and learning more about Chinese culture.

Under the theme of the Lingnan culture heritage, the current on-line Winter Camp consists of four modules: "Chinese Tour", "Cultural Tour", "City Tour" and "Talent Tour", aiming to spread and promote knowledge of the excellent Chinese traditional culture. The eight-day camp offers language and cultural learning with video tour of natural scenery and cultural landscape of the Lingnan region.
Shortly after that, there will be another camp entitled on the Charming Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Dynamic Lingnan Region, starting from February 21, according to the School of International Culture.
