Ambassador Xiao Jianguo, representing the Chinese Embassy in Dili, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, expressed congratulations in a congratulatory letter to SCNU on November 18 on the establishment of Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU.
In the letter, Ambassador Xiao Jianguo mentioned the close and friendly relationship between China and Timor-Leste, and emphasized the important responsibility and significance of the research for regions and countries. “The Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste sincerely wishes that the Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU can make progresses and achievements in research into Timor-Leste and the wider region, so as to contribute to promoting bilateral relations and intensive cooperation of both sides especially in education and culture,” the letter said.
According to a list released by the Ministry of Education in March this year, the Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU was approved as a scientific platform to develop research on regions and countries. Its establishment marks the great progress of SCNU in research of international issues, providing political advisory services and developing think tanks.
By establishing a Timor-Leste Strategic Research Data Center, project libraries, a research network and information databases, the Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU will trace and analyze the situation in Timor-Leste so as to research relevant strategic issues on politics, economics, education, technology, safety, resources, the environment and cooperation. It aims to develop into a collaborative and innovative Timor-Leste research center and set up a think tank for strategic research on Timor-Leste, and providing references for government's policy-making on Timor-Leste.
As the only ministerial-level research base of a Chinese university directly named after Timor-Leste and carrying out research on Timor-Leste, the establishement and development of the Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU carries a momentous strategic significance on the cooperation and exchange between the two countries. Meanwhile, the Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU is an advanced think tank under the Belt and Road Initiative as well as an important platform for SCNU to develop its discipline development.
SCNU will further integrate resources from all sides and promote more communication and coordination between the Timor-Leste Research Center of SCNU and the Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, to conduct high-level and substantive research, provide constructive advice for the deep cooperation in culture and education between China and Timor-Leste, and further contribute to the long-term friendly development of bilateral relations.
