The 11th International Conference on Liquid Crystal Resiliency (ILCEC), co-hosted by SCNU, the International Joint Laboratory for Responsive Materials and Device Integration (DIRM) and Shenzhen Guohua Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd., was successfully held from November 15 to 16. Due to epidemic prevention and control measures the conference was held on line.
This year the focus of the conference was on the latest advances in soft robotics, programmable materials, advanced materials, biomaterials, elastomers theory and simulation, material physics, and topics related to stimulant reactive materials (shape memory materials, optics and photonics, and material mechanics)
Professor Zhou from SCNU gives an opening speech
Professor Zhou Guofu, dean of the South China Institute of Advanced Optoelectronics at SCNU, delivered the opening speech of the meeting. Professor Timothy White (University of Colorado, USA) then gave a presentation at the conference. Later, Professor Yu Yanlei ( Fudan University), Professor Robin Selinger (Kent State University, USA), and Professor Zhao Yue (Sherbrooke University, Canada) gave keynote speeches. Moreover, more than 10 experts in the field of liquid crystal elastomers from various countries and regions had been invited to make presentations, including Professor Xie Tao of Zhejiang University, Professor Ji Yan of Tsinghua University, Professor Suk-Kyun Ahn of Pusan National University in Korea and so on.
The program of ILCEC 2021
The conference attracted more than 300 registered participants, with a concurrent on-line audience of 240. At the same time, the conference also featured seminars at venues such as the University of Cambridge and the University of Colorado. The participants had vigorous discussion on research results, which stimulated the researchers' enthusiasm for scientific research, expanded the space of academic thinking, and accelerated the actual transformation of the research results. At the conclusion of the conference, the ILCEC Organizing Committee announced that the next ILCEC conference is scheduled to be held in early October 2022 at the University of Colorado, USA.
Most of participants attend the meeting via live-streaming
The ILCEC has been successfully held ten times over the past two decades, bringing together the world's leading chemists, physicists and engineers to discuss the latest research results and application prospects of liquid crystal elastomer materials. Over the years, the ILCEC has been committed to building a bridge between the industrialization of technological innovation and academic research, promoting close cooperation between a large number of domestic and international academic and industrial communities. The conference played an important role in promoting the development of soft robots in China and broadening the international vision of researchers.
