This year marks the decennial of the unveiling of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia. SCNU sent a letter to express warm congratulations recently.
“In 2011, SCNU and the University of Latvia jointly established the Confucius Institute there. Over the past decade, with the joint efforts of both sides, the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia has grown and become an important platform for the Latvian people to learn Chinese and understand Chinese history and traditional Chinese culture. It has made outstanding contributions to promoting educational and cultural exchanges between China and Latvia, and also friendly exchanges between the two countries,” the congratulatory letter said.

The letter also mentioned that the cooperation between SCNU and the University of Latvia plays a positive role in the international development of both sides, the cultural exchanges involving teachers and students, and even the promotion of multi-cultural exchanges and mutual learning in the world. It is hoped that the two sides will continue to maintain friendship, deepen cooperation in the fields of Chinese education and cultural exchanges between China and Latvia, work together with sincerity and unity, and make greater contributions to the educational development of the two countries.

The Chinese International Education Foundation, a non-profit charitable social organization responsible for the brand maintenance of Confucius Institute, also sent a congratulatory letter to the University of Latvia. It spoke highly of the outstanding achievements made by the Confucius Institute there in the past ten years. “The Confucius Institute at University of Latvia has taught diversified and multi-level Chinese teaching curricula, held high-end forums and colorful cultural activities, published Chinese-Latvian dictionaries and Chinese related books, and made positive contributions to international sinology research.”
Moreover, composed by SCNU teachers and sang by SCNU choir, a song named Mastering was specially composed and recorded for the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

To mark its tenth anniversary, the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia has also held a series of activities, some of which on line. It held a series of exhibitions in the National Library of Latvia including “Words of Love in Watercolor” and “The Decennial of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia”.
Several books have been published, such as My Chinese Dairy (Chinese edition), My Chinese Story (in English and Russian editions), Chinese Teaching Exploration in Latvia (Chinese edition), Research on Latvia and China from the Perspective of Latvia (in Chinese and English editions), A Decennial Album of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia (in Latvian, Chinese and English editions) and so on. What’s more, Chinese teachers, volunteers at SCNU and students of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia sent on-line videos to express congratulations to the tenth anniversary of the Institute.

Since the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, it has developed into an important platform for Latvian people to learn Chinese. Now Latvia has 17 Chinese teaching centers (including 5 Confucius Classrooms), ranking first in Baltic states. Chinese teaching centers have spread all over Latvia, from primary schools to colleges.
