SCNU joined the second China-Belgium innovation dialogue on October 28 and 29. A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed and an agreement on establishing a joint laboratory with Ghent University was reached during the meeting.
The 2nd China-Belgium innovation dialogue was jointly hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) via video link. Vice minister of Science and Technology Huang Wei and BELSPO’s chairman of the board, Pierre Bruyere attended the meeting.
In the presence of leaders and experts from both sides, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between South China Normal University (SCNU) and Ghent University (UGent) and the Agreement on Establishing a Joint Laboratory of SCNU and UGent on Liquid Crystal Optoelectronic Devices were signed.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on policies for science and technological innovation, considered successful cooperation mechanisms in retrospect, and prospected future cooperation modes and directions in key fields, including life sciences, space and aerospace.

On the subsequent China-Belgium innovation forum, SCNU Professor Zhou Guofu gave a keynote speech on green optoelectronic materials and devices for smart cities in the future. Experts from the two countries reported on progress in their research in various fields, such as future industry, life sciences and smart and sustainable cities, and had in-depth discussions, to explore prospective cooperation modes and directions.

Over 160 delegates from national and local governments, universities, research institutes, high-tech parks, industry alliances and innovative enterprises from Belgium and China attended the meeting.
The China-Belgium innovation dialogue is at the vice-ministerial level led by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the Belgian Science Policy Office. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Belgium diplomatic relations, the second China-Belgium innovation dialogue is another high-level and integrated interaction mechanism between government departments, scientific research institutions and enterprises of both countries about innovation policy and the drive to innovation cooperation.
