Compared with the year 2020, SCNU's disciplines show two general characteristics:

Geography, Software Engineering, Physics, Philosophy, Chinese Language and Literature, Mathematics and Biology are in the top 20% subjects. The total number of SCNU disciplines in the top 20% increased by three compared with the previous year.

Secondly, keeping a steady ranking. 93.3% of disciplines rank flat or up this year. Nine rankings of subjects have moved up and 19 stand tied. Some subjects have risen rapidly in rank, such as Public Administration, Chinese Language and Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, Chemistry, Biology, Music and Dance, Theoretical Economics, Electronic Science and Technology, Fishery Science.

Shanghai Ranking is an authoritative evaluation organization in China. Since its first release in 2017, its ranking has found recognition in society. The evaluation index system of this ranking includes the performance of the discipline in talent cultivation, research projects, achievement awards, academic papers, and high-end talents. The latest 2021 Best Chinese Subjects Ranking includes 96 first-level disciplines, involving thousands of disciplines at nearly 500 universities in China.
