114 research projects at SCNU have received a total of 54.8 million worth of funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), according to the 2021 NSFC funding report released recently.
The number of projects approved ranks third among national teacher training colleges, with the funding rate of over 21% for applications made by SCNU, which is 5% higher than the national average. Among the funded projects are two Key Programs, two Excellent Young Scientists Fund projects, 58 general programs and 52 Young Scientists Fund projects.
A total of 18 schools and colleges of SCNU have received funding. The School of Life Sciences (22 projects), the School of Mathematical Sciences (13 projects) and the School of Environment (10 projects) rank in the top three in the number of projects. The School of Economics and Management had eight projects approved, up 100% over the previous year. With regard to the amount of direct funding, the top three are the School of Life Sciences, the School of Mathematical Sciences and the South China Institute of Advanced Optoelectronics, with direct funding received of 9.1 million, 9.0 million and 4.8 million yuan respectively.
The National Natural Science Foundation of China is an important source of funding for fundamental research at SCNU, playing a strong supportive role in the development of a high-level and “Double First-Class” university. So far, 9 Excellent Young Scientists Fund projects and 9 key projects of SCNU have been approved by the NSFC since 2018, both ranking third among national teacher training colleges in China.
