Another twenty-two SCNU majors were selected to be developed into First-class Undergraduate Majors, according to a list published by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China a few days ago.
The first-class undergraduate majors were selected from course programs which performed either at the national level or at the Guangdong provincial level. Applied Psychology, together with eight other majors of national rank, is selected to be developed into a national first-class undergraduate major, while 13 majors, including Finance, of provincial rank will be developed into first-class undergraduate majors.
The selected majors account for about 60% of the total number of undergraduate enrollment majors of SCNU, including 20 majors in the field of education and teacher training which account for 83.3% of the total number of educational majors at SCNU. This highlights that SCNU has formed a good professional layout with teacher training as the main feature and coordinated development of multiple disciplines, effectively supporting the development into a Double First-Class University, according to a statement on the official school website.
So far, SCNU has 28 national and 47 provincial first-class undergraduate majors in development. Among the 27 undergraduate teaching units, 24 units have been approved as provincial first-class undergraduate majors under development, and the coverage rate of schools has reached 88.9%.
Since April 2019, the Ministry of Education has begun to implement the “Double First-Class Program” aimed at the development of first-class undergraduate majors, planning to develop about 10,000 state-level first-class undergraduate majors and about 10,000 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors between 2019 and 2021. The program will promote development by the universities, and help build a powerful country through higher education.
