One Hundred and thirty-four projects at SCNU have received a total of 59.1 million worth of funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), according to the 2020 funding report for projects approved during the acceptance period of centralized application announced by the NSFC on September 18. 

Both the number of projects approved and the amount of funds received reached a record high this year, ranking 3rd among national teacher training colleges.

Compared with last year, this year witnessed a 13.6% increase in the number of Excellent Young Scientists Fund projects, General Programs and Young Scientists Fund projects approved at SCNU. The projects funded include two Key Programs, three Excellent Young Scientists Fund projects, 55 General Programs, 73 Young Scientists Fund projects and one Special Fund project. What’s more, funding for General Programs has increased by 22.2%, while the number of Young Scientists Fund projects has increased by 17.7% against the same period last year.

A total of 20 schools of SCNU have been funded. Among them, the School of Life Sciences ranks at the top, with 24 projects, followed by the School of Environment, with 17 projects funded. The School of Mathematical Sciences has 14 projects funded, ranking 3rd at SCNU. In addition, the School of Physics & Telecommunication Engineering and the School of Chemistry have 13 and 10 projects funded, respectively.

With regard to direct funding, the School of Life Sciences,the School of Environment and the School of Physics & Telecommunication Engineering received the most funding, with direct funding of 10.2 million, 9.9 million, and 5.4 million yuan respectively. 

What’s more, compared with 2019, the number of projects approved at the School of Environment, the School of Chemistry and the School of Mathematical Sciences exceeds 10 projects this year, which comes down to increasing rates of 325%, 66.7% and 55.6% respectively.

At present SCNU has received funding support from NSFC in the following 7 scientific departments (see table).

Since 2018, SCNU has attached great importance to the organization of National Natural Science Foundation project application. With efforts of SCNU departments, colleges and SCNU researchers, the projects approved by the NSFC during the acceptance period of centralized application have risen from 76 in 2017 to 96 by 2018. In 2019, the number of projects approved reached 118. This year, the number of projects have hit a record high, contributing to the development of a high-level and "Double First-Class" university.
