On May 6, Professor Wang Enke, President of South China Normal University (SCNU), and Professor Sibrand Poppema, President of the University of Groningen, Netherlands, signed an agreement on inter-University cooperation on the South China Academy of Advanced Optoelectronics (AOE). Under the agreed framework, a number of top-level scientists at home and abroad, represented by Bernard L. Feringa, professor of the University of Groningen and winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, jointly established the SCNU-UG International Joint Laboratory of Molecular Science and Displays (MSD).201805070da123.jpg

At the inaugural ceremony, SCNU and University of Groningen signed an inter-university cooperation agreement and an agreement on the SCNU-UG International Joint Laboratory of Molecular Science and Displays. In addition, SCNU also reached a cooperation agreement with the Guangzhou Development District on the International Display Technology and Innovation Center.

Academician Bernard L. Feringa, academician of Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and SCNU Distinguished Professor Albert Van den Berg respectively lectured on molecular machine and microfluidic research in the New Century Forum, in which they gave a detailed introduction on the principle of the molecular machine and its huge potential application in intelligent materials, as well as the potential of microfluidics technology in precision medicine.

SCNU has again collaborated with a renowned Dutch university since its previous cooperation with Eindhoven University of Technology andthe University of Twente on the establishment of joint laboratory, marking another milestone in the inter-university cooperation between SCNU and Dutch universities. In addition to responding to the policy of improving the ability of basic research and applied research and supporting the introduction of a Nobel Prize-winning scientists to lead the construction of a number of internationally specialized laboratories in Guangdong, this collaboration is also an implementation of the policy.

MSD Lab aims to bring together a group of world-class scientists, academic masters like Nobel Prize winners and Nobel Prize judges. Besides, in combination with top scientists at SCNU, it will strengthen basic research, enhance original innovation, promote scientific transformation, and lead the development of related areas in Guangdong and the whole country so as to promote industrial upgrading.

Feringa, 2016 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Professor Katarina Svanberg, Distinguished Professor of SCNU attended the event. Vice President Ma Weihua presided over the meeting.
