School of International Culture, South China Normal University 

In order to cultivate international talents who are proficient in Chinese, familiar with Chinese culture and national conditions, and able to work in a cross-cultural environment with Chinese, the school of international culture of South China Normal University will, as always, warmly carry out undergraduate enrollment of Chinese language for international students all over the world. Chinese language major is an academic education for the foreigners whose native language is not Chinese and the overseas Chinese. This program aims to cultivate compound talents with Chinese language ability, Chinese communication ability, basic knowledge and application skills of pedagogy, psychology and second language teaching, or business knowledge and application skills. Students who have completed all the courses, passed the dissertation defense, obtained score of 180+ on HSK 6 and met the requirements of degree awarding in our university would be awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree.

一、 General requirements

1. Target Group: high school qualification or above with valid foreign passport.

2. Following students should meet the conditions set by the Document No, 12(2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC:

  √ Students who emigrate from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and obtain the foreign nationality.

  √ Students, whose parents (either or both) hold Chinese nationality and reside abroad, acquire foreign nationality at the time of birth.

3. Age requirement: 18-35 years old （Scholarship applicants must meet the age requirements of

each program）

4. Physical Condition: In good health, meets the health examination standards of applying for a

 student visa or residence permit in China.

5. Moral cultivation: The applicant should be friendly to China, honest, respects the customs of

Chinese people and has no records of violation on Chinese law, school rules, public security punishment or crimination.

6. Financial Condition：In good financial situation, be able to pay 4 years tuition, accommodation

and related daily living expenses.

二、 Application Documents

1. Equal to high school qualification of China or above.

2. Diploma of final education or Pre-Graduating Certificate, original or notarized version, in notarized Chinese or English Translation.

3. Full transcripts of final education, original or notarized version, in notarized Chinese or English Translation.

4. College Entrance Achievement Test for International Students (CSCA Test), Mathematics is required (Examination language is Chinese): Please go to the official website of CSCA ( www.csca.cn ) to view the specific test content and time.

5. Valid HSK test report (HSK-4 with a passing score of 180 or above)

6. Two recommendation letters：one is from the principal of high school and one is from the teacher. Applicants with high education should provide 2 recommendation letters from professor or associate professor in the graduated university or college. Original or notarized version, in notarized Chinese or English Translation.

7. Study Plan (including personal understanding of the Chinese language major, the proposed plan, and etc., about 400 words).

8. Passport copy (valid for more than 6 months)

9. All Visa copy with visa records, entry & exit stamps (if available).

10. A color photo, taken recently within the last 6 months. (same as the one on the passport.)

1. Program Duration: 4 years

2. The courses offered in the first two years include elementary and intermediate Chinese, listening and speaking, extensive reading and basic composition, etc.

3. Starting from the third year, two majors are available. Major in Chinese Education and Business Chinese.

七、Costs

1. Registration fee: 420 CNY (non-refundable and non-transferable)

2. Tuition fee: 21,000 CNY/year

3. Insurance: 3 options available: 800CNY/year, 1,000CNY/year and 1,200CNY/year

八、Scholarship

1. Chinese Government Scholarship (Full scholarship): Under 25 years old with a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 4). Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can directly apply to their home country’s student exchange office or the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy or Consulate (Consulate General) in their host country. The application period generally lasts from January to April each year, and application procedures and deadlines vary in different countries; please consult in advance. For more details, visit the Chinese Government Scholarship Application System ( https://campuschina.org ). Create personal account, select Project Type A, and submit the material as requested.

2. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Full scholarship): Under 25 years old with a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4), and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level); Be interested in Chinese language education and related work. For more details, please visit http://www.chinese.cn.

3. Guangdong Government Outstanding Foreign Student Scholarship: 10,000CNY, for the age of 30 or under and self-sponsored students who have admitted by SCNU. Application time is usually from April to July. Students are selected on the basis of merit.

九、 Application Procedure and Warm Tips

To ensure that you successfully complete your application for admission, the application process norms are explained as follows. Please read carefully and follow the order.

Fill in personal information online, upload all documents as required and  

submit application form completely

                ↓（About 1-2 weeks for initial review）

After passing the initial review, an email will be sent to pay the registration fee

↓ (About 2weeks)

After confirming the reception of registration fee, school will schedule an interview

                      ↓ （About 1-2weeks）

After passing the interview, school will process the application of JW202

    ↓ （About 3-4 weeks）

Admission Notice and JW202 will be released to the applicant

Go to local Chinese embassy and consulates to apply for student visa

Tips：

1. Please upload all required documents to process the whole procedure. Each document must be less than 1M.

2. Certificates, diplomas and transcripts must be notarized copies. All documents must be translated into Chinese or English.

3. The transfer application will not be accepted after two weeks of starting of school.

4. Please upload valid passport and visa page, transcripts, attendance (above 80%) and transfer certificate, entry and exit records if you have been studied in any school in China.

5. International students from some countries are required to submit the resume and notarized non-criminal certification. The specific requirements will be notified by email.

6. Those under the age of 18 who apply for a degree or long-term education must have a guardian of Chinese nationality. The guardian's certificate must be notarized. The specific requirements will be notified by email.

7. Applicants must promise that all information filled and materials uploaded on the “South China Normal University International Student Online Service Platform” are accurate, truthful, legal, and valid. Once submitted, they cannot be modified. If the materials contain information that is false, fake or misleading, applicants will be disqualified and bear relevant responsibilities.
