SCNU Chinese Government Scholarship—Chinese University Program 2021

Introduction

Chinese Government Scholarship—Chinese University Program is a full scholarship established by MOE to support Chinese universities in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. As one of the key comprehensive universities, South China Normal University (SCNU) undertakes the enrolment of international postgraduates under this government scholarship.

Eligibility

(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
(2) Applicants should not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application or be a graduate from Chinese universities for more than one year.
(3) Education background and age limit:
· Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.
· Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40.

Course limitation

This scholarship program is not applicable to the students applying for courses in such fields as their native language or in a third-country language such as English or French, Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and Master of Business Management.

As most of the programs of SCNU are conducted in Chinese, new HSK5 or equivalent Chinese proficiency is required. If you haven't achieved the language level yet, please include your Chinese Study in the "Language Proficiency and Proposed Study in China" application Section. Only by passing the required HSK test after the Chinese language course could they start their degree course studies.

Duration of scholarship

The duration of scholarship is, in principle, the same as the number of years of study. Those who take part in and pass the annual review can receive scholarship for the next year.

Scholarship coverage

(1) Tuition waiver.
(2) Living allowance: 

RMB 3,000/month/person for master's students; 

RMB 3,500 /month /person for doctoral students.

Application procedures

Applicants are eligible for scholarship assessment only after they are admitted to the master's or doctoral program of SCNU.
(1) Applicants shall make online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn (Agency No. of SCNU: 10574) and download and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and then sign the form.
Applicants shall also register and make online application at http://istudy.scnu.edu.cn and print out the Application Form for Foreign Students to SCNU and then sign the form.
(2) Submission of application documents:
Send by post to Admission & Promotion Office of School of International Culture, SCNU by 31st March the following required documents. (Postal address: Room A104, Tian Jia Bing Building of South China Normal University, No.55 Zhongshan Avenue West, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, P. R. China, Post Code : 510631; Tel. +86-20-85215350)
a. Application Form for Foreign Students to SCNU(in Chinese or English)
b. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(in Chinese or English).
c. Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Graduating students should submit Hope Certificate issued by their current school. Photocopy of documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
d. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
e. An essay about study plan and research proposal in Chinese or English with a minimum of 800 words.
f. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
g. The copy of valid HSK Certificate (if available).
h. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy) (The original copy will be kept by yourself and the form is uniformly printed by Chinese healthy quarantine departments. It must be written in English and can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org).The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.
i. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own instrument or vocal performance. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings or two other works.
* All documents should be bound together on top left corner in the order of “a” to “h”. (You should submit TWO sets of bound documents). No application documents will be returned.

Selection and notification

Applicants will be given priority consideration if they graduate from world-renowned universities, sister universities or are recommended by senior professors or experts. A panel of experts at SCNU will screen candidates for the scholarship and submit a list of nominees to university authorities for approval. Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants' application documents, academic performance, overall merits, research achievements and supervisors’ comments. The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council for final approval. It should be advised that nomination will be canceled by China Scholarship Council if students have been found nominated by other university before SCNU.

The result will be published on the website of School of International Culture of South China Normal University in late June. Scholarship winners will be notified via email and their Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) will be sent out as soon as possible.
