On the afternoon of November 10th, the signing ceremony of International Cooperation & Establishment of the International United College of South China Normal University was held at the Nanhai campus of South China Normal University (SCNU). According to the plan, the Nanhai campus will be transformed into a new engineering and interdisciplinary growth pole, a demonstration area for international cooperation, a pioneering area for serving localities, and a pilot area for university-industrial research collaboration through five years of development. By 2022, the number of students will reach 4,000, and a complete bachelor-master-doctoral training system will be established.
SCNU has recently carried out the adjustment and optimization of discipline layout, in which the Nanhai campus focuses on "new engineering, interdisciplinary, international and applied" development. The international school running of the Nanhai campus will be coordinated by the International United College. Based on the principle of "the Chinese side playing the major role, one to many parties at the same time", the International United College attaches great importance to the needs of an innovation-driven development strategy and industrial restructuring, transformation and upgrading of the Nanhai district in the city of Foshan, and focuses on carrying out strong cooperation with famous foreign universities such as the University of Aberdeen (UK), Curtin University, Australia, St. Louis University (USA), the Sophia Antipolis campus of the University of Nice and the University of Tours, both in France. The International United College will accelerate the bidding for Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions with foreign universities, expand Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, conduct in-depth joint training at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, promote the development of English-taught programs, recruit foreign students, and promote international cooperation in university-industrial research. Besides, an Institute of Innovation and Development will be established to promote the transformation of scientific research results in accordance with the needs of regional development.
The International United College mainly has four types of majors, i.e. information technology and new engineering majors in areas such as software engineering, computer science and technology, network engineering, artificial intelligence, intelligent science and technology, data science and big data technology, Internet of Things engineering; interdisciplinary majors in areas such as information technology, new engineering and economics such as financial engineering, e-commerce, etc.; interdisciplinary majors in areas such as information technology and new engineering majors and management disciplines including information management and information system, financial management and accounting, etc.; applied language subjects such as French, etc..
The International United College and the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom will mainly cooperate in joint training of information technology, new engineering and economic majors, while joint training of information technology, new engineering and economics and management disciplines will be conducted between International United College and Curtin University in Australia and St. Louis University in the United States, and joint training of French majors will be taken up by the International United College and the Sophia Antipolis campus of the University of Nice and the University of Tours, both in France. Besides, the“2+2” training mode will be successively implemented with the purpose of building a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution and several Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. Moreover, the International United College will set up a financial engineering center, big data research center, artificial intelligence research center, and a cross-border education quality assurance research institute in accordance with the industrial development needs of Nanhai district in Foshan, while focusing on talent training mechanisms and university-industrial research collaboration mechanisms that are closely linked with local industry development, in order to promote the transformation of scientific research results to better serve local economic and social development.
Li Jinjun, director of the Division of Exchange and Cooperation of the Education Department of Guangdong province, Zhu Kongjun, party secretary of SCNU, Wang Enke, president of SCNU, Diao Zhenqiang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of SCNU, Liu Junwen, member of the Standing Committee of the Foshan municipal government, and vice mayor of Foshan, Xian Fulan, deputy director of Nanhai district, and school leaders from the University of Aberdeen, Curtin University, and St. Louis University, etc. attended the ceremony and witnessed the establishment of the International United College of South China Normal University. Wang Enke, on behalf of SCNU, signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Aberdeen, Curtin University, St. Louis University and the University of Tours. The ceremony was hosted by Ma Weihua, vice president of SCNU.
